Seed Paper Printing

You can order plantable seed paper print made to order in the company’s own Cornwall studio. You can check your design on the real paper with a test print or sample pack before committing, and its website says delivery is free on all UK orders. Bespoke sizes, bulk runs and personalised work are quoted on request.

Seed Paper Printing is a specialist trading name of After Hours Creative Ltd, a print studio in Bude, Cornwall, that says it has been operating since 2009. It prints only on seed paper, which it describes as 100% recycled paper embedded with 12 native British wildflower seeds. It prints in-house with water-based inks and a heat-free process that it says keeps the seeds viable. The company says brands, event agencies and wedding planners use it, and it names Microsoft, ITV Studios, Screwfix and Penguin Random House alongside councils, agencies and independent businesses. It supplies and ships only within the UK.

Products and formats

Its website groups the printed range into four areas. It also sells blank sheets and shapes for buyers who want to work with the paper themselves.

• Business and marketing: business cards, flyers, postcards, swing tags, bookmarks and badges
• Weddings and events: invitations, save the dates, menus, place cards, envelopes, hearts and butterflies
• Memorial and remembrance: memorial cards, funeral orders of service, bookmarks and hearts
• Seasonal cards and gifts: greeting cards, Christmas cards, gift tags, note cards, notebooks and baubles

Paper and seed mixes

All online orders are printed on the company’s Meadow Wildflower Mix, a UK-made blend of 12 wildflowers that it says is stocked throughout the year. Poppy and mixed herb papers are available by request, subject to seasonal availability. Its terms say the paper is handmade, so shade, texture and print sharpness vary, and that germination cannot be guaranteed. Our guide to eco-friendly promotional products explains how to check sustainability claims like these.

Ordering, samples and quotes

Online orders are print-only, with die-cut shapes on selected products. Complex die-cutting, foiling, embossing, debossing and other special requirements are supplied by quotation. A custom size calculator gives guide prices for flat seed paper up to 420 x 300mm, single or double sided, with hole drilling or creasing. The final price is confirmed after artwork review. Bulk volume discounts, name splits and variable-data personalisation are quoted on request.

A test print puts your artwork on one A4 sheet of 280gsm wildflower seed paper. A sample pack contains a mix of printed and blank pieces from across the range. Both list standard despatch of up to 2 working days. Its terms say payment is due in advance, proofs are sent by email, quotations are valid for 30 days and delivered quantities may vary by 5% either way.

Seed Paper Printing is also listed under UK-made merchandise, recycled products, stationery and office and event and exhibition merchandise. Other seed paper printers listed include SeedPrint (plantable seed paper from Leicester) and Dynamic Print (a printer and design studio in Norwich).
